In search of a new favorite Mexican spot?
Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the best affordable Mexican restaurants around Charlotte, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture when cravings strike.
1. Sabor Latin Street Grill
Topping the list is Sabor Latin Street Grill. Located at 415 Hawthorne Lane in Elizabeth, it is the highest-rated inexpensive Mexican restaurant in Charlotte, boasting 4.5 stars out of 711 reviews on Yelp.
The local restaurant group has eight locations in Charlotte and offers daily specials. Look for $1 Taco Tuesdays or kids-eat-free Wednesdays. Menu items include the Sabor Special: your choice of protein with rice, refried or black beans, plus sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole, lettuce and queso.
2. Three Amigos Mexican Restaurant
Plaza Midwood's Three Amigos Mexican Restaurant and Cantina, located at 2917 Central Ave., is another top choice that features daily specials, with Yelpers giving the low-priced Mexican spot four stars out of 381 reviews.
Here, kids eat free on Monday and all desserts are 50 percent off on Tuesdays. Check out the enchiladas poblanas: three tortillas filled with chicken and covered in signature Mexican mole sauce topped with cheese, onions and sour cream.
3. Johnny Burrito
Johnny Burrito, a Tex-Mex spot in downtown Charlotte, is another much-loved, low-priced go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 89 Yelp reviews. Look for customized burritos filled with marinated and chargrilled steak or, for vegetarians, sauteed mushrooms or zucchini and yellow squash. Head over to 301 S. 4. Miguel's Mexican and American Restaurant
Next up is Miguel's Mexican and American Restaurant, which has earned four stars out of 269 reviews on Yelp. Lunch specials include taco salads made with chicken or beef, beans, lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, radish, sour cream, guacamole and olives.
Dinner specials include Thursday's chimichanga: two flour tortillas deep fried and filled with beef tips or chicken, served with beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, nacho cheese and guacamole. Dig in by heading over to 4252 Business Center Drive.
5. Anita's Mexican Grill
Last but not least, there's Anita's Mexican Grill, a favorite with 4.5 stars out of 83 reviews. The cozy spot is tucked away in a storefront space near a gas station. Look for chicken fajita soup stuffed with a heaping helping of veggies, or the carne asada tacos. Stop by 2904 Yorkmont Road, Suite C, to hit up the Mexican spot next time you're in the mood for cheap eats.
