Topping the list is Mitchell's Homemade Ice Cream. Located at 1867 W. 25th St. in Ohio City, it's definitely the place to score ice cream, frozen yogurt and more since it's the highest-rated dessert spot in Cleveland, boasting five stars out of 254 reviews on Yelp.

This is the Northeast Ohio chain's flagship shop and has a kitchen in the back where the handcrafted ice cream is made. Take a tour, then grab a scoop or two of your favorite flavors, such as caramelized chocolate, lavender honey or toasted pistachio. Check out the rest of the flavors here.

2. Sweet Moses Soda Fountain & Treat Shop

Next up is Detroit Shoreway's Sweet Moses Soda Fountain & Treat Shop, situated at 6800 Detroit Ave. With 4.5 stars out of 341 reviews on Yelp, it's proven to be a local favorite, serving up homemade ice cream, signature sundaes, malts, fudge and handmade confections.

You can even try a throwback pharmacy-era soda fountain drink, what Sweet Moses' website bills as "forgotten favorites from the golden age of the soda fountain." The retro vibe continues throughout the shop, with an authentic Bastion-Blessings soda fountain, old-fashioned cash register, marble counter tops and restored wrought-iron chairs.

3. Jack Frost Donuts

Whether you grab the classic glazed or one of the specialty options, the shop has a wide assortment of fresh doughnuts ready for the hungry masses. Jack Frost's offerings include the Cookies and Cream with white cream and crushed Oreo sprinkles; the Fat Elvis with powdered sugar, peanut butter cream, banana filling and bacon bits; and the Death by Chocolate with chocolate icing, chocolate custard, chocolate syrup drizzle, chocolate cream and a chocolate-hazelnut pirouette stick.
