A new arcade and bar has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Select Start, the new addition is located at 2812 Elm St. in Deep Ellum.
It takes the place of The Pharmacy (which closed due to a name dispute with the Texas Pharmacy Act, according to GuideLive) and offers up mostly new-school games, some retro multi-game units and select old-school favorites.
The bar focuses on cocktails and craft beers. It's family friendly up until 10 p.m., at which point it only admits those who are 21 or over.
Select Start has just two reviews on Yelp, but it's still early days.
Nadja B., who reviewed the new spot on May 27, said, "We had fun! [We played] several games: Mortal Kombat, Pac-Man and other old-school games. [The] Street Fighter machine was out of order ... there was a machine to get quarters to play the games."
Lindsay K. added, "I guess if you are a teenager and want a place to go in Deep Ellum, it's fine, but if you are an adult looking to have drinks and a good time, I'd steer clear."
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Select Start is open from 3 p.m.–midnight on Monday-Wednesday and 3 p.m.–2 a.m. on Thursday-Sunday.
