Located at Hearsay Market Square, this restaurant focuses on modern American cuisine with a variety of brunch, lunch and dinner options. Expect to find dishes such as fried quail bites on cheddar grits, a Kobe beef hot dog with pickled onion relish, spicy beer mustard and sport peppers and lamb lollipops with whole-grain mustard potatoes, French green beans and balsamic fig reduction.

The menu also includes salads, pasta, seafood and vegetarian dishes, along with signature cocktails.

2. The Hay Merchant

Next up is Montrose's The Hay Merchant, situated at 1100 Westheimer Road. With four stars out of 900 reviews on Yelp, the gastropub, beer bar and traditional American spot has proven to be a local favorite.

Chef Chris Shepherd adds a modern twist to classic bar food, with dishes such as PB&J wings and tacos made with half a pig head, according to The Hay's website.

The expansive beer list features 80 beers on tap, in addition to cellared bottles and rare finds. If beer isn't your thing there are also a variety of cocktails to choose from.

3. Karbach Brewing Company

This craft brewery offers a variety of unique beer, like the Blood Orange Radler and the Rodeo Clown Double IPA. There are also seasonal options and special series, which can be found here. 

The food menu includes pizza, sandwiches, fried chicken, salads, small bites and more.

4. Hughie's

Hughie's, a Vietnamese and New American spot in Timbergrove, is another go-to, with four stars out of 587 Yelp reviews.

If you're in the mood for banh mi and beer, this spot has you covered. Expect to find beers from local and national breweries to pair with the fusion menu, with everything from spring rolls and dumplings to chicken tenders and cheeseburgers. Head over to 1802 W. 18th St. to see for yourself.

5. On The Kirb

Head to the Upper Kirby area and check out On The Kirb, which has earned four stars out of 212 reviews on Yelp. You can find the sports bar and gastropub at 5004 Kirby Drive.

The menu focuses on local, organic ingredients and includes burgers, pizza, salads, wraps and more. There are a variety of signature cocktails to choose from, like the Jasmina Colada with Captain Morgan black and coconut rum, coconut and jasmine, and When Doves Rye with Bulleit Rye, pinot noir, lemon, cherry-kiwi cane syrup and angostura bitters.
