Looking for a way to accomplish your 2018 fitness goals? A new martial arts studio is here to help. The new arrival, called Cobrinha BJJ Santa Monica, is located at 3131 Santa Monica Blvd. and has affiliated schools in Greater Los Angeles and around the globe.

"We believe that Brazilian jiu-jitsu is much more than just a martial art or self-defense system," the business says on its website. "Our classes will help you build confidence, develop a positive attitude and instill lessons that are applicable in every aspect of your life."

With that philosophy in mind, the new studio offers classes for all ages, ranging from jiu-jitsu and self-defense to capoeira — an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music. (You can see the schedule and offerings here.)

Cobrinha BJJ Santa Monica is off to a strong start, with a five-star Yelp rating based on two reviews.

Carlos O., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on April 24, said, "Cobrinha Santa Monica is a fantastic school for anyone who wants to learn or practice their jiu-jitsu. The head instructor, Orlando Machado, is a world-class competitor and instructor. ... There's a good range of skill levels too, so it's great if you're a beginner, trying to get back into training or want to compete."

“This is the best Brazilian jiu-jitsu school in Santa Monica," stated Yelper Paul V. "Orlando gives great detailed instruction and moves like Cobrinha.”

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Cobrinha BJJ Santa Monica is open from 4–5 p.m. and 6–10 p.m. on Monday-Thursday and 4–5 p.m. and 6–9 p.m. on Friday. (It's closed on weekends.)
