Craving plant-based ice cream and sorbet? You're in luck: a new shop has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Located at 1411 NW 70th St. in Ballard, the fresh addition is called Frankie and Jo's and is the second location for the business, with its flagship store on Capitol Hill.

Owned by Autumn Martin and Kari Brunson, the shop offers vegan and gluten-free ice cream that is primarily made with a combination of sprouted cashew nut milk and coconut milk, the shop explains on its website.

Expect everyday flavors like salted caramel ash, chocolate mint brownie and brown sugar vanilla, seasonal flavors such as the Hello Sunshine with a pineapple twist and sorbet flavors like beet strawberry rose. The cones are also free of gluten and contain oat flour, maple syrup and a hint of brown sugar.

Frankie and Jo's has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of 30 reviews on Yelp.

Fiona X., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 9, said, "First of all, I had no clue this place was vegan. I couldn't tell after I ate the ice cream either. But I will say that I may have a new favorite ice cream spot."

Yelper Megan F. added, “I can see why vegans love Frankie & Jo's. I personally am not vegan, but I really enjoyed their ice cream which is a healthy alternative to other desserts."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Frankie & Jo's is open from noon–11 p.m. daily.
