1. New Center Eatery

Topping the list is New Center Eatery, a Southern-inspired breakfast and brunch spot. Located at 3100 W. Grand Blvd., it's the highest rated business in the neighborhood, boasting four stars out of 186 reviews on Yelp.

On the menu, look for fried chicken wings with a Belgian waffle, salmon croquettes with rice, grits or hash browns, spicy gumbo and a scramble with bacon, sausage and ham. 

2. Pure Detroit

Next up is Pure Detroit, a shop to score clothing, jewelry and home goods, situated at 3011 W. Grand Blvd., Suite 101, in the New Center One building. With 4.5 stars out of 52 reviews on Yelp, it's proven to be a local favorite.

Established in 1998, the business now has several shops around the city, each located in a landmark Detroit building. The retailer offers a wide variety of items for fans of the Motor City, including seatbelt-style belts featuring an image of the Spirit of Detroit, onesies for babies, "Detroit Is for Lovers" T-shirts and Belle Isle Aquarium candles. 3. City Wings

City Wings is another top choice, featuring 17 different flavored wings from lemon pepper to Caribbean jerk along with sides like mac and cheese, green beans and fried okra. Yelpers give the business, located at 2896 W. Grand Blvd., four stars out of 85 reviews.

4. Pot + Box

Pot + Box, a full-service florist and plant nursery, is another much-loved neighborhood go-to, with five stars out of 13 Yelp reviews. Located in the historic Fisher Building, the shop offers an assortment of flowers and greenery and creates arrangements for weddings and special events. Head over to 3011 W. 5. Detroit Hardware

Finally, there's the family-owned Detroit Hardware, which has earned 4.5 stars out of 19 reviews on Yelp. You can find the old-fashioned hardware store, which has been in business since 1924, at 6432 Woodward Ave.
