Topping the list is Smitty's Wings & Things. Located at 946 N. Yosemite St. in Midtown West, the traditional American restaurant owned by former NFL player Steve Smith specializes in wings and pizzas, but also serves the Smitty's burger combo, with fries and a drink.

With 4.5 stars out of 454 reviews on Yelp, it's the highest rated burger spot in Stockton and has been featured on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. While customers love the food, a few warn that it closes early: between 6:30 and 8 p.m.

Spanos Park West's Moo Moo's Burger Barn, located at 10940 Trinity Parkway, Suite A, is another top choice. Yelpers give the classic American diner, which offers burgers as well as a full breakfast menu, four stars out of 206 reviews.

The plethora of burger options are the big draw at Moo Moo's, with choices like the Blue Moo (featuring crumbled blue cheese and red onions) and the BBQ Moo topped with bacon and deep fried onions.
