Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top dessert hot spots in Lakewood, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to satisfy your sweet tooth.
1. The Root Cafe

Topping the list is The Root Cafe. Located at 15118 Detroit Ave., the bakery and vegetarian eatery is the highest rated dessert spot in Lakewood, boasting 4.5 stars out of 286 reviews on Yelp.
Start off with sweet drinks like hot chocolate with steamed milk or Mexican cocoa with cinnamon and vanilla. The baked goods are made with organic fruits and veggies; gluten-free and vegan items are also available.
The vegetarian kitchen at this eatery serves sandwiches like the homemade hummus wrap full of spinach and fresh vegetable slices; and the tempeh Reuben topped with local sauerkraut, Thousand Island dressing and Swiss cheese.
"The Root Cafe is my go-to place for a cup of coffee and yummy pastry! They have a great selection of gluten- and dairy-free pastry," wrote Yelper Lindsey B.
2. Blackbird Baking Company

Next up is Blackbird Baking Company, situated at 1391 Sloane Ave. With 4.5 stars out of 115 reviews on Yelp, the bakery that specializes in European pastries and artisan breads has proven to be a local favorite.
Get ready for pecan sticky buns; seasonal fruit galettes; cranberry, apricot walnut, cherry or chocolate almond scones; chocolate, raspberry, apricot or almond filled croissants; sweet cream biscuits; traditional chocolate chip or peanut butter cookies; and lemon curd, raspberry or almond shortbread layer cookies.
3. Malley's Chocolates

Malley's Chocolates, located at 14822 Madison Ave., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the candy store, which offers ice cream, shakes and other treats, 4.5 stars out of 78 reviews. Malley's began business in Northeast Ohio in 1935 and has since expanded to 23 stores in the region.
"I love going to this place for ice cream," Yelper Chelsea L. said. "All of the workers are always friendly and attentive. There are plenty of places to sit in the chocolate shop, you get served water and pretzels as you wait for your ice cream, and they have an array of sundaes. I love it."
4. Fear's Confections

Check out Fear's Confections, which has earned 4.5 stars out of 51 reviews on Yelp. You can find this sweet shop, which offers desserts and more, at 15208 Madison Ave.
Keep an eye out for graveyard shift brownies topped with nuts plus frostbite brownies flavored with mint; Krampus chocolate bars, large chocolate assortment boxes and dark almond toffee; and treats like Burning River Bars, caramel chocolate Oreos, mustache suckers, chocolate chess sets, skeleton sugar cookies, a chocolate Millennium Falcon and an entire collection of Doctor Who-themed candies.
5. Campbell's Sweets Factory

And then there's Campbell's Sweets Factory, a local favorite with 4.5 stars out of 47 reviews. Stop by 14730 Detroit Ave. to hit up the popcorn shop and candy store, which offers desserts and more, next time you're in the mood.
"Chocolate lovers, beware, your caloric intake for the day is about to skyrocket," Yelper Dana W. said. "Everything we tried was delicious. The homemade oversized peanut butter cups are amazing, and the cupcakes are uniquely flavored and fantastic. They even have chocolate-covered gummy worms. This is a must-stop when in the Cleveland/Lakewood area."
