Looking to check out the best music venues near you? Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top places to listen to live music in Detroit, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to go for everything from classical music to hard rock.
1. Fox Theatre Detroit

Topping the list is Fox Theatre Detroit, a landmark spot that first opened in 1928 and can seat more than 5,000 patrons. Located at 2211 Woodward Ave., the performing arts center and downtown staple is the highest rated music venue in Detroit, boasting 4.5 stars out of 126 reviews on Yelp.
One of the largest arenas in the city, Fox Theatre hosts music concerts, comedy acts, plays and other performances. Stop by on Sept. 15 to hear Dutch violinist André Rieu or Sept. 28 for 4U, a symphonic tribute to the late artist Prince. Check out the theater's website for more information.
2. Detroit Symphony Orchestra

Midtown's Detroit Symphony Orchestra, located at 3711 Woodward Ave., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the music venue and performing arts spot 4.5 stars out of 56 reviews. Its historic Orchestra Hall building was built in 1919 and the symphony is currently under the principal conductorship of Leonard Slatkin.
This spot offers regular concerts along with community outreach programs, classes and other events. Classes are available for all age groups and performances include everything from solo acts to rock bands. Check the orchestra's website for more information.
3. PJ's Lager House

Last but not least, there's PJ's Lager House, a Corktown favorite with four stars out of 116 reviews. Stop by 1254 Michigan Ave. to hit up the music venue and pub.
This spot has about four or five live shows per week. While you listen to music, grab a small bite like chicken strips, a cup or bowl of gumbo, a cheeseburger with fries or a shrimp po'boy. Look for upcoming artists such as country band The Orbitsuns on Aug. 9 and the hard rock Lucid Furs on Aug. 10. Check out the bar's website for more information.
