Zocalo

Zocalo is an upscale Mexican restaurant that's located at 2051 Metairie Road and is currently open only for dinner. The menu boasts queso fundido with chorizo verde and flour tortillas; tacos like the al pastor style with charred pineapple salsa and fresh jalapeños wrapped in housemade tortillas; and main dishes like the grilled red snapper marinated in adobo. Drinks include pineapple margaritas mixed with jalapeño and cilantro, plus many agave-based liquors. 

El Fogon Tacos & Grill

Another new Mexican option is El Fogon Tacos & Grill, located at 4726 Veterans Blvd. The restaurant features Mexican cuisine like carne asada and fish tacos; shrimp wrapped in bacon with bell peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, charro beans and rice; and chorizo and bacon quesadillas. Round out your meal with desserts like flan and tres leches cake.

Little Bookworm

Also new is Little Bookworm, a bookstore, gift shop and toy store that's located at 115 Metairie Road. It offers everything from gently used children's books to eco-friendly toys and gifts, as well as games, educational materials and book gift baskets. Little Bookworm also plays host to special events like storytime, birthdays and baby showers. 

Ice Queen

Head over to 3304 W. Esplanade Ave. and you'll find new ice cream shop, Ice Queen. It's Thai-style rolled ice cream, which is liquid ice cream ingredients — vanilla, chocolate, coffee, etc. — made frozen on the spot, with additions like Oreo, mixed nuts or chocolate chips mixed in, and toppings like whipped cream or sprinkles. You'll also find an extensive list of teas, like milk tea, cheese tea and fruit teas.
