A new sushi bar, offering ramen and more, has opened for business in Bellingham. Located at 4277 Meridian St., Suite 102 in Guide Meridian, the new arrival is called Hokkai Ramen & Sushi.
This family-owned Japanese restaurant offers a wide array of dishes, but as the name suggests, the focus is ramen and sushi. Diners can choose from shio, shoyu, miso, or tonkotsu ramen, each topped with BBQ pork, a soft-boiled egg, bamboo shoots and scallions. There's also a veggie ramen option.
On the sushi side, Hokkai offers nigiri combos and rolls like the Spicy Poke (tuna, cucumber, scallops, and tobiko with spicy mayonnaise). Beverage options include Japanese beer, hot sake, and Ramune, a Japanese soft drink.
There's just one review on Yelp thus far, which gives it three stars.
Vikki L., who was the first Yelper to review the new spot on July 6, wrote, "Soup base was a bit on the salty side with the tonkotsu ramen, and [the] restaurant is a bit stingy, with just one piece of bbq pork. But otherwise, [the] noodles had good texture and [the] egg was made perfectly. Scallop roll was good. Service is decent."
