A new spot to score ice cream has opened up shop in the neighborhood. Located at 3110 Mt Pleasant St. NW in Mount Pleasant, the new arrival is called Mount Desert Island Ice Cream.

The Maine-based ice cream company specializes in small batches of classic and experimental flavors, and famously became a vacation stop for then-president Barack Obama in 2010. This is its fourth location in the country (the first three are back Maine).

Mount Desert Island Ice Cream has already attracted fans thus far, with a five-star rating out of two reviews on Yelp.

Christopher G., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on July 1, wrote, "Excellent addition to Mount Pleasant! All ice cream is made in house and tastes as fresh as you can get. Sundaes are amazing. They even have ice cream for dogs!"

Yelper Koutayba Y. added, “Awesome ice cream! Great service. Over 20 flavors. The Coriander Streusel & Berry Ripple was amazing! Great place and excellent atmosphere!”

Interested? Stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood. Mount Desert Island Ice Cream is open from noon–9 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, noon–10 p.m. on Friday, and 11 a.m.–10 p.m. on Saturday.
