A new bookstore has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Politics and Prose, the new addition is located at 1270 Fifth St. NE in Brentwood's Union Market.
It joins the bookstore's recently expanded flagship location on Connecticut Avenue, and another branch in The Wharf on the southwest waterfront. Despite the cutbacks at other bookstores, Politics and Prose seems to have found its way despite online competition.
“There’s been a lot of expansion in a relatively short time. So far, The Wharf has worked out very well and the expansion of the main store has worked out well, so we’re optimistic about the prospects of Union Market,” co-owner Bradley Graham told BTW, a publication of the American Booksellers Association. “But after this, we’re going to catch our breath and get accustomed to the additional space.”
It's still early days for the fledgling business — it just has a couple reviews.
Yelper Jamoya J. wrote on July 5, "Love having a P&P in the neighborhood! This location is small but very accommodating to book requests. They didn't have a book (that was available in other locations), however, they special ordered it and I picked it up two days later at no extra cost."
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Politics and Prose at Union Market is open from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. on Tuesday-Friday and 9 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekends. (It's closed on Monday.)
