Looking to try the best crêperies in town?
Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the choices in Philadelphia, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots for sweet and savory versions of the French pancake.
1. So Crêpe
Topping the list is So Crêpe. Located at 1506 South St. in the Graduate Hospital area of Center City, So Crêpe is serving up genuine French crêpes, both sweet and savory.
While the owners were still living in France, they came up with the idea "to offer French crepes that would be affordable, traditional, yet innovative and true to the crepes’ roots back in Brittany, France," per the cafe's website.
Savory varieties include ham, egg and cheese; hot dog, Swiss cheese and Dijon mustard; and smoked salmon, avocado, sour cream and chive. The sweet ones often feature fresh fruit, butter or chocolate. So Crêpe boasts 4.5 stars out of 253 reviews on Yelp.
2. Crêperie Beau Monde
Next up is Bella Vista's Crêperie Beau Monde, situated at 624 S. Sixth St. A lengthy main menu features appetizers, salads and soups, in addition to crêpes both pre-designed or built to your own specifications.
Stop in for weekend brunch, happy hour (5-7 p.m. weekdays, 3-5 p.m. Sunday), lunch specials or the Sunday prix fixe menu that offers soup or salad as a first course, a crêpe for the second course and a dessert, for $25. With four stars out of 569 reviews on Yelp, the crêperie has proven to be a local favorite.
3. Vineyards Cafe
Francisville's Vineyards Cafe, located at 847 N. 16th St., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving it 4.5 stars out of 137 reviews. Vineyard's Cafe also has savory crêpes starring cheese, meat and/or vegetables, and sweet ones from the simple butter and sugar to a caramel, ricotta, vanilla bean and amaretto combination. A full sandwich menu is also available, along with coffee and dessert.
"This place has the most delicious crepes in Philly!" wrote Yelper Ksana. "Love their Philly crepe, caramel ricotta crepe and La Colombe coffee!"
4. The Crêperie
The Crêperie is a food truck based at 1291 W. Norris St. at Temple University's Tyler School of Art. Regulars extol the extensive menu (yes — sweet and savory crêpes are both available), the good value and the portability for walking to class. It is another much-loved go-to for Philadelphians, with 4.5 stars out of 98 Yelp reviews.
5. T-Swirl Crêpe
Finally, there's T-Swirl Crêpe in Chinatown, which features several options for dessert. This is a Japanese take on the French classic, using a batter from gluten-free rice flour made crispy in the heating and packaged to eat on the go. T-Swirl Crêpes has locations from Texas to New York and beyond. This location at 150 N. 10th St. has earned four stars out of 287 reviews on Yelp.
Try the banana chocolate with a crêpe wrapped around chocolate custard, whipped yogurt, sliced bananas, chocolate truffles and granola. Or opt for the smoked salmon crêpe with cream cheese, baby spinach, capers and green beans.
