This Friday evening marks the return of McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour. Now in its 12th year, the concert offers gospel music lovers a wide range of family-friendly performances with award-winning artists — including Deitrick Haddon, Donald Lawrence, Ricky Dillard and Canton Jones. The concert is free and open to all, but advance registration is required.

Bring the entire family to the Beckley Saner Recreation Center this Saturday morning for a community empowerment day featuring school supplies giveaways and free food.
The three-hour event is hosted by the nonprofit YES T.H.R.I.V.E. — a workforce development program behind the Pathway to Success program, which helps urban males in ninth-12th grades excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), professional development, as well as health and wellness. Attendees will learn more about the program and participating community organizations and businesses.

Sisterhood Goals Workshop for Women & Teen Girls
Also this Saturday morning: Majestic Daughters Empowerment hosts an intimate empowerment workshop for women and teen girls. Held at Martin Weiss Recreation Center, the three-hour program will feature a talk by the organization's founder, Calandra M. Williams, whose passion lies in helping women and girls learn "the power of sisterhood through the building of relationships, networking and collaboration to help build each other’s empires."
The event is open to a total of 50 women and girls, and there's still time to snag a few remaining tickets.

Gardening in the Shade
Green thumbs of all experience levels are invited to North Haven Gardens this Saturday afternoon for a free class on designing, planting and maintaining shady garden refuges. As another hot summer winds down, NHG's education and outreach coordinator Rusty E. Allen will help locals identify the few plants that flower in shade and how to combine them with plants of various heights and textures to develop a beautiful, low-maintenance shady oasis featuring a few stand-out blooms.

Cafe Momentum's Sunday Supper Concert Series
Spice up your Sunday evening with an acoustic dinner date benefiting local at-risk youth. Cafe Momentum — the nonprofit restaurant that helps at-risk teens learn culinary skills — continues its Sunday Supper Concert Series with performances this week by two world-touring Americana artists: Will Johnson and Melody Guy. Guests will enjoy a three-course family-style dinner, complimentary wine, beer and bubbly, and the live show.
