Panera Bread

Popular national chain Panera Bread is a bakery that also offers sandwiches, soups and salads. The first such location to open in Modesto, it's situated at 3401 Dale Road in the Vintage Faire Mall, in the former site of The Elephant Bar.

In addition to its in-house baked loaves of bread and pastry assortment, Panera's food offerings include the Napa chicken salad sandwich, French onion soup and the Cobb salad with green goddess dressing. One lunch special allows diners to pick half of any two sandwiches, soups, or salads to combine.

Stop by 330 Needham St. and you'll find TNK Vegan Cafe, a new café that is Modesto's first for entirely plant-based dining. We recently reported on the new family-owned business's offerings, which include a veggie burger with pickled onions, sautéed mushrooms and onions, and jalapeños.

dd's Discounts

Finally, dd's Discounts is a new discount department store owned by Ross, offering clothing, housewares, furniture, tools and more, as we recently reported. It's located at 2400 Coffee Road — the second such establishment in Modesto.
