1. Cajun Queen

Topping the list is Elizabeth's Cajun Queen, which has been serving Charlotte at 1800 E. Seventh St. since 1985. With four stars out of 674 reviews on Yelp, it's the highest-rated Cajun and Creole eatery in the city and features live jazz seven nights a week.
The restaurant is nestled in a 100-year-old house and offers menu items like seafood gumbo, served with fresh vegetables, shrimp and crab meat. Other options include French-cut pork chops with Southwestern barbecue sauce, Cajun-roasted potatoes and steamed broccoli; shrimp scampi sauteed with butter, garlic, scallions and parsley; and farm-raised blackened catfish served with garlic mashed potatoes.

The shop offers an array of po'boy sandwiches, including fried tilapia fillet, fried whole croaker, soft-shell crab, fried whiting fillet and more. Cajun Yard Dog in the Arboretum is another go-to, with four stars out of 277 Yelp reviews. Appetizers include crispy deviled crab cakes with spicy chipotle aioli and fried gulf oysters with cocktail sauce.
