Wander over to 2412 Wisconsin Ave. NW in Glover Park and you'll find Eerkin's Uyghur Cuisine & Tea Bar, a halal spot offering noodles and kebabs. The spot features Uyghur chefs who are well-informed about the ancient recipes of their culture. For those who are unfamiliar, Uyghur cuisine reflects the cooking styles of many ethnic groups of the Xinjiang region, and refers particularly to central Asian food. Signature ingredients include roasted mutton, kebabs, roasted fish, chicken and rice.

Dishes include soups (chuchura), kebabs made from lamb, chicken and shrimp and baked flatbread known as kathlama naan, made with sesame seeds, butter, milk, vegetable oil and salt. Ready for more? Check out the popular Xinjiang dish, Dapanchi, a spicy hot chicken stew served on a big plate. After the chicken has been eaten, wide flat hand-pulled noodles are added to the gravy.
