Got a hankering for cheesesteaks? You're in the right city.
Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top cheesesteak sources in Philadelphia, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to satisfy your cravings.
1. Dalessandro's Steaks and Hoagies

Topping the list is Dalessandro's Steaks and Hoagies, a local staple that was established in 1960. Located at 600 Wendover St. in Roxborough, it's the most popular cheesesteak spot in Philadelphia, boasting 4.5 stars out of 1,563 reviews on Yelp.
It serves both ribeye and chicken cheesesteak sandwiches. The finely chopped meat is piled high in a soft roll with grilled onions and cheese. For those who want to spice up their sandwich, a variety of mild to hot peppers are on offer. Besides cheesesteaks, you've got hoagies, Angus burgers and salads. (See the full menu here.)
Yelper Gianni B., who reviewed it on Aug. 24, wrote, "An absolute must if your feet are in Philly! Be prepared for a crowded room and know exactly what you want when you get to the counter. The staff behind the registers are Jedis at taking orders and I hope they are well paid! This is where real Philly eats and the steaks are amazing!"
2. John's Roast Pork

Next up is John's Roast Pork, situated at 14 E. Snyder Ave. in south Philly. With 4.5 stars out of 1,142 reviews on Yelp, the spot to score cheesesteaks and more has proven to be a local favorite.
For cheesesteaks, it has several options, including the bruschetta cheesesteak, the mushroom cheesesteak and the sweet pepper cheesesteak. It's also famous for its specialty hot roast pork sandwich. Then there are breakfast sandwiches, club sandwiches, hoagies and more. (See its menu here.)
Christopher S. said, "Hands down the best cheesesteak in Philly. Any time I go to John's it's a struggle on whether I'll get pork or steak. I usually let the line dictate which I get, especially if I'm in a hurry. The cheesesteaks are cooked perfectly. The pork is flavorful and juicy. The rolls are out of this world."
3. Cleavers

Rittenhouse's Cleavers, located at 108 S. 18th St., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the sports bar 4.5 stars out of 721 reviews.
On the menu, you'll see cheesesteak sandwiches like the Cleaver (one pound of ribeye steak, American cheese and Cheez Whiz), the Pizazz (ribeye steak, mozzarella moons, pizza sauce and shredded Parmesan) and the BBQ Cheesesteak (ribeye steak, onion rings, bacon, American cheese and barbecue sauce). It also has chicken and veggie sandwich options. (See the full menu here.)
Jenn S., who visited on Aug. 7, wrote, "I've died and gone to cheesesteak heaven! Holy cow! I'll seriously never go anywhere else again for a cheesesteak. This place has the highest quality meat! The bread is perfect and the portions are very generous. You may need a nap after though, cause it will put you into a food coma!"
4. Tony Luke's

Over in south Philly, check out Tony Luke's, which has earned four stars out of 1,562 reviews on Yelp. You can find the cheesesteak place at 39 E. Oregon Ave.
Options include the Old Fashion Pizza Steak (with tomato, provolone and oregano), the Cheesesteak Hoagie (with lettuce, tomato, mayo, pickle and cheese) and the Steak Italian (with greens and cheese). It also serves roast beef and pork sandwiches, chicken steak sandwiches, hoagies and breakfast fare.
Kaila T. wrote, "Fantastic! Outstanding. Sensational. There are so many other words that could describe this place. If anyone is traveling to Philly and is craving the staple cheesesteak, you should give this place a try. I got the signature sandwich with American cheese. To die for. Packed with flavor and plenty of meat."
5. Max's Steaks

And then there's Max's Steaks, a north Philadelphia favorite with 4.5 stars out of 429 reviews. Stop by 3653 Germantown Ave. to try its version of the cheesesteak.
On the menu you'll find the chicken cheesesteak, pepper cheesesteak and mushroom cheesesteak. There's also a full service bar with beers and cocktails.
Yelper Daphne C., who reviewed it on Aug. 13, said, "I have eaten cheesesteaks from here several times and they never disappoint. They pile on the meat and the bread holds up quite well. There is always a line, but I never mind because the food is so tasty. Whenever I can, this is my go-to for cheesesteaks."
