Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top bike shops in Baltimore, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture next time you're in the market for a new set of wheels.
1. Race Pace Bicycles
Topping the list is Race Pace Bicycles. It sells parts, accessories and complete bikes from brands like Trek, Cannondale, Felt and Scott. There are road, mountain, folding, electric and kids bicycles. The staff also does repairs and service. Located at 1414 Key Highway in Federal Hill, it is the highest rated bike shop in Baltimore, boasting five stars out of 40 reviews on Yelp. The regional chain also has a shop in Charles Village.
2. Light Street Cycles
Next up is Federal Hill's Light Street Cycles, situated at 1124 Light St. It also has a full-service repair shop, which will build a new bike for you or provide a tune-up for your current bike. Brands include Breezer, Kestrel, Surly and Fuji. Light Street Cycles also rents bicycles and provides bike tours of Baltimore. With 4.5 stars out of 35 reviews on Yelp, it has proven to be a local favorite.
3. The Handlebar Cafe
Fells Point's The Handlebar Cafe, located at 511 S. Caroline St., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving it four stars out of 79 reviews. The bicycle-themed cafe and live music venue is also a bike shop owned by X-Games champion Marla Streb. You can bike there, and park your ride either inside or out. There is a small but full-service bike retail and repair shop, featuring select bike lines and accessories.
4. Baltimore Bicycle Works
Baltimore Bicycle Works in Charles North, is another go-to, with four stars out of 34 Yelp reviews. It sells Jamis, Surly, Brompton and Detroit bicycles, and parts from Mavic, Pedro's and Animal. There is a limited selection of used bikes. Staff members build custom wheels and provide services from flat repairs to tune-ups. Head over to 1813 Falls Road to see for yourself.
5. Joe's Bike Shop
Finally, over in Fells Point, check out Joe's Bike Shop, which has earned four stars out of 32 reviews on Yelp. The folks at Joe's do the full range of repairs and service. The shop sells Trek, SE, All City and Surly bikes along with apparel, helmets and cleats. You can find Joe's at 723 S. Broadway, Suite B. It has another location in Mount Washington.
