A new spot to score New York-style pizza and sandwiches has opened up shop in the neighborhood. Called Sapienza, the fresh addition is located at 620 N. Church St. in uptown.

Appetizers include calamari served with choice of marinara or garlic-lemon aioli, breaded Italian wings topped with Parmesan and Caprese made with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil, and drizzled with olive oil and house-made balsamic glaze. Sandwiches include the eggplant muffuletta with roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, black olives, pesto and spring mix on a baguette.

Hungry for pizza? Look for noteworthy options like the chicken bacon ranch; white broccoli; thick-cut Sicilian; and meat-stuffed pie with ham, bacon and sausage.

The fresh arrival has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a five-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp.

Robin F., who reviewed the new spot on Aug. 3, wrote, "This is probably my favorite pizza place in Charlotte right now. The crust is cooked to perfection and the slices are huge with great toppings. They also serve paninis, salads, pasta and wings."

And Jeff M. wrote, "Big N.Y.-style slices loaded with amazing sauce, tons of cheese and the dough and crust were perfect. The inside is super bright with plenty of natural light, lots of seating and beer, wine and liquor. Owners and staff were super friendly and fast."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Sapienza is open from 11 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekdays and noon–8 p.m. on weekends.
