The bakery features croissants (plain, chocolate and ham and cheese), bagels and breads (brioche loaf, country sourdough, cinnamon raisin, and more). There are also sweet treats like cupcakes, cakes, pastries and cookies, as well as made-to-order sandwiches for breakfast and lunch.

Protein Bar in Penn Quarter is another go-to, with four stars out of 328 Yelp reviews. It's easy to maintain a gluten-free diet here among the breakfast scramble, oatmeal and other bowls, salads, wraps, and soups.

Consider the chicken chili, the steakhouse salad or the Morning Mexicali scramble, made with eggs, black beans, cheddar, kale, salsa, spicy tomatillo lime sauce, avocado and chipotle yogurt. Fruit-packed smoothies are on hand to finish off the meal. Head over to 398 Seventh St. NW (between North Indiana Avenue and North D Street) to see for yourself.
