Trendy international furniture and home decor store West Elm has opened a location in Midtown's Ice Blocks development. Located at 1610 R St., Suite 160, the Williams Sonoma-owned company specializes in multifunctional pieces with a "clean, sharp, modern aesthetic," as the Sacramento Bee recently reported.
For instance, there's a coffee table that pops up to show extra storage space, and side tables that double as shelves. The company has outfitted several demonstration apartment units in the residential part of the Ice Blocks development to tempt potential tenants — and decorators.
West Elm also sells outdoor furniture, housewares like plates and bowls, and the goods of local handcrafters who make soaps, stationery and more.
With a four-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, the decor depot has gotten a good response.
"With high ceilings and beautiful displays, the layout is spacious and allows one to browse quite easily," wrote Tiffany K., who was the first to review the new spot on August 3.
She added, "The decor caters to the more urban and younger set in my opinion. Subdued hues, retro mid-century modern looks accompanied by textured (the latest is velour) pillows, I am a fan. The prices — while they won't break the bank — IKEA this is not."
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: West Elm is open from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. on Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m.–6 p.m. on Sunday.
