The Halal Guys
First up is The Halal Guys, a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean spot now open at 4915 Elm St. in Bethesda Row. The New York-based chain serves gyro sandwiches and platters of halal meats with toppings and sauce.
Customize your meal with proteins like beef gyro meat, falafel and chicken, and topping options that include green pepper, onions and tabbouleh. It's known for its mayonnaise-based white sauce (the business is secretive about what else is in there), but various other barbecue and hot sauces are also on hand. Platters come with sides of rice and a lettuce-and-tomato salad.
Fish Taco
Next, at 7251 Woodmont Ave. in Bethesda Row, you'll find Fish Taco. Previously located nearby on Wisconsin Avenue, it's now housed in the former Secolari location, where it boasts a menu of fast-casual Mexican food.
Design your own meal based on proteins that include fish prepared three ways (beer-battered, blackened, grilled) and ancho shrimp, plus adobo chicken, carnitas, barbacoa and steak. Pair that with salsas and various toppings (cabbage, charred corn, beans, jalapeños and more), and have it served on corn tortillas, on a bed of rice, as a salad or as a quesadilla. Wash it down with a margarita, craft beer or wine.
Amazon Books
Finally, Amazon Books is another new addition to Bethesda Row at 7117 Arlington Road. The credit-card-only shop highlights titles trending on the Amazon website, with a section for kids, books for traveling and books that are highly rated online. It also sells Amazon devices like the Echo, Kindle e-readers, Fire tablets and Fire TV. Prime members get discounts.
