Bierhaus: An indoor Biergarten event 

First up, the Homeless Children's Education Fund (HCEF) is hosting an indoor beer garden to raise funds for the education of kids experiencing homelessness and to give them hope for a brighter future. The 21-and-over event is at the Spirit pizza and event hall in Lawrenceville, where your entry will get you Spirit pizza, a salad bar and two drinks. Enjoy live music, socializing and supporting the cause.

MakerDate 2018

MakerDate is an annual event to raise money for Assemble, a nonprofit community space for arts and technology that offers daily educational programs to youth throughout Pittsburgh. Guests will enjoy a buffet-style meal, two drink tickets and music from DJ Mary Mack.

The evening will include a live and silent auction of "dates" with craft makers, designers, technologists and innovators, who will work with the winning bidders to make a piece of art, a personalized piece of technology or practice a new skill. There is also a raffle with donated museum passes, gift certificates to restaurants, discounts to spas, and maker kits such as embroidery and robotics. 

When: Friday, Sept. 14, 6-10 p.m.

2018 Pittsburgh Recovery Walk

Next, celebrate the many roads to recovery from addiction and all those who have traveled them by joining the Pittsburgh Recovery Walk. It aims to dispel the negative stigma associated with being in recovery from addiction and recognize recovery as a positive force in the community.

The free event takes place in September as part of National Recovery Month. The Pittsburgh Recovery Walk begins at 11th and Waterfront and proceeds down Penn to Market Square, where a Recovery Expo will be loaded with activities, speakers and entertainment. Participants will get a free T-shirt. 

When: Saturday, Sept. 15, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
Where: Begins at 11th and Waterfront (just north of Smallman Street in the Strip District)

Food Truck-a-Palooza

On Saturday, join Good Taste! Pittsburgh for Food Truck-a-Palooza. The rain-or-shine event will take place at the new outdoor event space next to Rivers Casino and will feature over 40 of Pittsburgh's premier food trucks. There will also be magicians, live music and jugglers to make any wait in line a memorable one. The $10 admission includes parking at the casino but does not include food or drinks.

When: Saturday, Sept. 15, 2-7 p.m.

Carnegie Mellon University Philharmonic

Finally, enjoy a night of classical music with the Carnegie Mellon University Philharmonic. Conductor Andrés Cárdenes, violinist Erin David and mezzo soprano Abigail Fischer will play selections from composers Samuel Barber, Ottorino Respighi and a world premiere from Roberto Sierra. Carnegie Mellon and Pitt students get in free.
