A new modern Eritrean spot has debuted in the neighborhood. Called Delina Eritrean Urban Kitchen, the newcomer is located in the former Heckman’s Delicatessen space at 4914 Cordell Ave. in the Woodmont Triangle.

Fans of Ethiopian cuisine will feel at home even if new to Eritrean, with many names representing the same or similar dishes: tsebhi/wat, tibsi/tibs, among others. The restaurant also has a full bar and outdoor patio.

The small plates menu features many chicken, beef, lamb and vegetable dishes in intensely flavored sauces, typically eaten with pieces of spongy injera flatbread. (Flatware is available, too.) Vegetarians will appreciate the many meat-free options.

Delina Eritrean Urban Kitchen has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp.

Lauren B., who reviewed the new spot on Aug. 30, wrote, "There are not enough places out there that offer small portions and a lot of vegetarian choices. I love the sampler-style nature of it. My co-worker and I each ordered two veggie dishes and shared a meat dish, and along with the injera that was plenty for a satisfying lunch."

And S G. wrote, "Tasty food, tapas-style Eritrean restaurant. Reasonably priced. Strangely enough, they had country music blaring, but the staff was nice and came over to check in throughout the meal. I will be back."

Head on over to check it out: Delina Eritrean Urban Kitchen is open from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. on weekdays and 5–11 p.m. on Saturday. (It's closed on Sunday.)
