If you've got traditional American fare on the brain, you're in luck: we've found the freshest Dallas eateries to quell your cravings. Here are the newest places to check out the next time you're in the mood for fried chicken, sandwiches and more. 

Mama Tried

Mama Tried is a country-themed bar and traditional American spot with live music, DJs, events and 24 beers on tap. 

On the menu, you'll see dishes like the Fried Chicken Board (three pieces of fried chicken tenders tossed in poblano hot sauce and served with a side), a Pretzel & Meat Board (twisted pretzel, wagyu sausage, pimento, bourbon mustard, okra and green beans) and Duke's Pimento Sandwich with jalapeño, mayo and beefsteak tomato on Texas toast.

Finish your meal with peach cobbler served with Blue Bell vanilla ice cream. (See the full menu here.)

Mama Tried is off to a strong start with five stars out of nine reviews on Yelp.

Yelper Lauren V., who reviewed it on July 7, wrote, "Great addition to Deep Ellum! There's a huge patio out back that I can't wait to take advantage of when the weather cools and a large indoor area with the all-important chilly AC for these ridiculously hot summer days."

Mitchy M. noted, "Good neighborhood place. Vintage country music DJs. Don't sleep on the kitchen menu. Another large patio in Deep Ellum."

Mama Tried is open from 4 p.m.–2 a.m. on Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m.–2 a.m. on Sunday.

Local Traveler

Local Traveler is an upscale casual eatery and bar that serves traditional American fare. It's next door to The Lot, which is managed by the same people.  

The menu includes dishes like the Santa Barbara rockfish with dandelion greens; the Laughing Bird shrimp and pappardelle with Parmesan, escarole, herb butter and Perigord truffle; and the smoked Idaho trout spread. 

The bar offers an extensive wine list, including some on tap, plus cocktails.

With a 3.5-star rating out of 43 reviews on Yelp, Local Traveler has experienced a solid reception.

Dalton J., who reviewed it on June 22, wrote, "Very trendy and a delicious menu. The waitstaff is very courteous and the food is cooked to perfection. Great food knowledge and taste. The beef, shrimp and handmade pasta are amazing."

D M. noted, "The food is wonderful. The drinks are awesome. The decor and setting can't be beat. But I've been here twice and, both times, the service from the waiters was really sub-par."

Local Traveler is open from 4–11 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. and 4 p.m.–midnight on Friday, and 10 a.m.–3 p.m. and 4 p.m.–midnight on weekends.

The Artisan

The Artisan is a market-style restaurant with a terrace bar that serves fresh, locally sourced cuisine. 

On the menu, offerings include the King Ranch Casserole (herb-roasted chicken in a Southwest sauce layered with corn tortillas and smoked cheddar); house-smoked turkey and Texas cheddar on a freshly baked croissant; and brisket and havarti on rye with horseradish cream. The Artisan has just one review on Yelp so far, which gives it five stars.

Yelper Hailey S. wrote, "I visited the Artisan for the first time and loved it. Their terrace has an incredible view of the Dallas Arts District and delicious cocktails. Their food is spectacular."

The Artisan is open from 7 a.m.–7 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m.–10 p.m. on Saturday. (It's closed on Sunday.)
