In search of a new favorite escape room?
Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top escape game spots around San Antonio, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to get your next great thrill around town.
1. The Exit Game Escape Room
Topping the list is The Exit Game Escape Room. Located at 5720 Bandera Road, Suite 23, it's the highest-rated escape game spot in San Antonio, boasting five stars out of 53 reviews on Yelp.
Current room challenges include Sherlock Holmes: Parliament Games, which places your team into the role of Holmes as he trails a member of parliament seeking to finish the work of Guy Fawkes; and Zodiac Killer: Legacy, which traps your team in the Zodiac Killer's lair and tasks you with uncovering his identity and escaping before it's too late.
Yelper Jodi L. wrote, "Great experience from beginning to end. Staff was upbeat and welcoming. Room was challenging and, unlike some, this room flowed well. Puzzles were well thought out."
2. Extreme Escape
Next up is Extreme Escape, situated at 9995 I-H 10 West in North Central San Antonio. With 4.5 stars out of 112 reviews on Yelp, the escape game spot has proven to be a local favorite. It has another popular location at 434 N. Loop 1604 West, Suite 1204.
The business currently has four escape room experiences, which include Mutiny and Master of Illusion. The former has you role-play as a band of pirates locked in the brig of an abandoned ship as it sails into the eye of a storm, while the latter has you step into the shoes of a group of detectives looking to solve the murder of one illusionist by another.
Yelp reviewer Zelina G. said, "Love this location and the employees are always so kind. I've tried every room and escaped Mutiny and Master of Illusion. All great rooms!"
3. Komnata Quest
Komnata Quest, located at 8507 McCullough Ave., Suite C-13, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the escape game spot near North Star Mall five stars out of 33 reviews.
Komnata Quest injects a little horror into its escape room challenges. Current rooms include Saint Angelo's Castle and the Impossible Murder Mystery. The former sets you in an infamous dungeon where many innocent victims of the Great Inquisition have spent their last hour, though every prisoner has had the opportunity to escape by solving puzzles. The latter has you playing a group of investigators as you attempt to solve a series of murders in the halls of academia, most of which happened after the prime suspect was locked away.
Yelper Devyn C. said, "Like no other escape room I've done! There were definitely occasional screams from our group ... it was pretty spooky! Great mystery to solve, great staff, would highly recommend to anyone!"
4. Lock'em Up Escape Rooms
Check out Lock'em Up Escape Rooms, which has earned five stars out of 17 reviews on Yelp. You can find it at 12332 Interstate 10 Frontage Road in University Bowl.
It has two rooms currently available. The first is Quest for the Throne, which has you trapped in a castle as you search for proof of your right to take the throne. The second is Safe House, which finds you trapped in a basement that turns out to be the booby-trapped safe house of a criminal.
Josh C., who reviewed it on July 21, wrote, "Great game masters and fun atmospheres here. I haven't seen a better price on escape rooms, though others have come close. And the rooms are nonlinear to a degree, which is unusual and more challenging."
5. Great Room Escape
And then there's Great Room Escape, an Eastside favorite with four stars out of 96 reviews. Stop by 1203 E. Commerce St. to hit up the escape game spot next time you're looking to have some fun.
Rooms include the Zombie Room in which a zombie is slowly gaining entry to the room you're trapped inside and you must solve puzzles to escape before it breaks in; and the Cabin Room, where in a bid to escape a pursuing serial killer, you've inadvertently stumbled into his trapped cabin, which you must escape before he can catch up.
Yelper Debbie Y. said, "Incredible experience for most of the family. I had the pleasure of taking part in the Zombie Escape Room and found the set design/costumes to be incredible. My family was engaged in the action the entire time: plenty of tricks, riddles and puzzles to keep your teenagers involved."
