Paying attention to monthly U.S. jobs reports, and curious what they mean for local workers? Here's how the current employment market looks across industries in Minneapolis.

Internet tech and computer software, two of the top industries that have consistently added large numbers of jobs in recent months, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, were also among the top industries seeking new workers last month in Minneapolis.

Health care and hospitals ranked first in the city last month, followed by banking and financial services, recruiting and staffing, internet and tech, and computer software and hardware, according to data from jobs site Glassdoor. 

If you're a retail team member, you're seeing plenty of opportunities for hiring and advancement in Minneapolis. Team members represented the category with the most new job listings last month, with project managers, shift managers, managers, and general dentists filling out the top five most job openings by occupation.

Many of the city's top industries reflect national trends, while some are more unique to the area. Of the five industries seeking the most workers in Minneapolis last month, health care, recruiting, and computer software were in the top five nationwide; finance and internet tech industries ranked second and fourth in Minneapolis but eighth and 10th across the U.S., respectively.

Differences in how employees rate their employers across industries in Minneapolis are similar to patterns seen across the country. Companies with the highest employee ratings in the U.S. appear in internet tech, accounting and law, real estate, computer software, and recruiting. Companies in three of those industries—internet tech, computer software, and accounting and law—are also rated highest among those recruiting this month in Minneapolis.

Among highly rated companies with new job listings last month, employees gave Minneapolis-based internet companies an average overall rating of 3.95 out of five stars in the city; local IT companies earn an average rating of 3.81 stars, software and hardware companies an average rating of 3.76 stars, and accounting and legal firms around 3.71 stars.

Health care establishments like Care.com, Fairview Health Services, and Allina Health are bringing on large numbers of general dentists, registered nurses, and retail representatives. And tech companies like Care.com, Amazon, and Mommy Jobs Online are currently seeking software development engineers, software development managers, and technical program managers.
