Looking for a spot to relax or work while sipping coffee or tea? You're in luck: a new business has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Located downtown at 1201 K St. NW, the new addition is called Kintsugi.

Situated on the ground floor of the new hotel and co-working space Eaton DC, Kintsugi is named for a Japanese technique of repairing cracks in pottery with gold. The lighting and decor reflect this golden-hued sensibility, and elegant furniture offers seating for small groups or independent laptop users. A garage-style wall stands ready to open in good weather.

The coffee program, which features espresso drinks and small-batch brews, is from Virginia-based Red Rooster. Ayurvedic teas are also on offer. To eat, you'll find baked goods like croissants, muffins and doughnuts.

Also in the building is American Son, the new restaurant from chef Tim Ma (who owns Kyirisan in Shaw), which offers comfort food with a plant-based bent.

With a 4.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, Kintsugi has already made a good impression.

Kimberly S., who reviewed the new spot on Sept. 11, wrote, "There are vegan and gluten-free pastries on display, fair trade chocolate and coffee and a latte menu that includes tumeric and matcha (most shops in the area cater to just one) as well as a bunch of teas and mushroom drinks. Color this semi-crunchy hippie impressed."

Yelper Austin G. added, “Kintsugi Cafe is hands down the best coffee shop in downtown DC. They brew only the best beans and craft unique drinks like mushroom coffee or caramel lattes. They bake all the pastries in-house. The staff are friendly and know coffee. The space is beautiful.”

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Kintsugi is open from 6:30 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m.–3 p.m. on weekends.
