Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top shaved ice spots in Charlotte, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture when cravings strike.
1. Kona Snow
Topping the list is Kona Snow. Located at 1627 Sardis Road North, Suite 4A in East Forest, this is the highest-rated shaved ice spot in Charlotte, boasting five stars out of 28 reviews on Yelp.
Visitors can choose up to three flavors per cup from among 80-plus flavors, including sugar-free and dye-free options. 2. Pelican's Snoballs
Next up is University City's Pelican's SnoBalls, situated at 7649 N. Tryon St. With 4.5 stars out of 47 reviews on Yelp, the spot to score shaved ice and desserts has proven to be a local favorite. The chain, with locations across the country, was established more than 15 years ago and is serving up 100-plus flavors, per its website.
Signature flavors include the Rainbow (cherry, pineapple and blue raspberry), Gone Fishin' (lemon lime, polar punch and gummy worms) and Butterfly Kiss (birthday cake, cotton candy and butterfly gummies).
3. Rita's Italian Ice
Rita's Italian Ice, located at 2015 E. Arbors Drive, Suite 260, at The Arbors in Charlotte, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the shop 4.5 stars out of 40 reviews.
If the name sounds familiar, it's probably because the business has storefronts across the country. On the menu, look for a variety of options ranging from Italian ice and frozen custard to milkshakes, blendinis and more.
