A new pizzeria and bar has opened for business in the neighborhood. Called Playland, the new arrival is located downtown at 400 E. Houston St. Established by chef Stefan Bowers and restaurateur Andrew Goodman, the eatery is named after the Playland Park that closed in 1980.

On the menu, you'll find pizzas like the JP (mozzarella, feta, jalapeños, pepperoni, red onion and Parmesan), the Forest Fire (rapini, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, pecorino and calabrese chilis) and the Not Pizza (goat cheese, apricot glaze, prosciutto, basil and spiced pecan dust).

The bar has beer, wine and signature cocktails, which include the Tilt-a-Whirl (Rebecca Creek whiskey, ginger liqueur, peche de vigne, honey and lemon) and the Rocket (Dripping Springs gin, cocchi rosa, Mediterranean tonic and lemon).

The new addition has gotten good reviews thus far, with a four-star rating out of 25 reviews on Yelp.

Yelper Adam D., who reviewed the new spot on Sept. 15, wrote, "Great ambiance and, most importantly, excellent pizza. I would venture to say the best in town. I can't wait to go back and try more."

Andrew B. noted, "Thoroughly enjoyed the pizza and full-service bar. The vibe of this place is unlike anything else in San Antonio. One thing to note, the pizza is meant to be slightly burnt on the crust."

Intrigued? Stop in and say hello: it's open from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.–9 p.m. on Sunday.
