Ready to find out about the newest businesses to open in North Dallas? From an offbeat taco place to a spot to score tea, read on for a rundown of the newest spots to debut in this area of Dallas.

Velvet Taco

Velvet Taco is a taco joint that has several other locations in the Metroplex, plus eateries in Austin, Houston and Chicago.

On the menu, you'll see quirky taco options like the Picnic Chicken (avocado crema, honey-Dijon potato salad, crispy chicken skin and cilantro on a flour tortilla), the Nashville Hot Tofu (crispy tofu, buttermilk ranch crema and pickle on a flour tortilla) and the Annatto Shredded Pork (avocado cream, grilled pineapple, pickled onion, queso fresco and cilantro on a hibiscus corn tortilla). Yelpers are still warming up to Velvet Taco, which currently holds 3.5 stars out of 35 reviews on the site.

Jannat C., who reviewed it on Aug. 8, wrote, "It can be difficult getting a table inside, but at least they have shaded seating outside with fans. The food was really good! I got the spicy chicken tikka taco with a side of red coconut queso with blue corn chips. The chicken was seasoned perfectly with a great crunch."

Terri G. noted, "Love the variety of tacos offered; however, after ordering the #2 chicken taco; when biting into the taco, there were two chicken bones. Chefs need to be sure that all bones are removed before serving." 

Velvet Taco is open from 10 a.m.–midnight on Monday–Thursday and Sunday, and 10 a.m.–1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

KP Groom

KP Groom is a new pet grooming business that offers baths, haircuts, shaves, nail trims and grinds, teeth brushing, hair dyes, dematting, flea and tick treatments and more.

It also sells a selection of pet products, including collars and beds.  

With just two reviews on Yelp so far, KP Groom has already made a good impression. 

Carly M., who reviewed the new spot on July 12, wrote, "Best groomer in Dallas! The staff and groomer are so friendly and make sure to take the time to discuss what cut would be best for your dog. They did a fantastic job with my doodle — she's never looked better! The quality of the groom and products used is the best I've found in Dallas."  

John M. added, "The place is new and clean with super nice staff. They sell their own brand of organic shampoos and fresheners that smell great."

KP Groom is open from 8 a.m.–6 p.m. on weekdays. (It's closed on weekends.)

Nature's Plate

Nature's Plate is a grab-and-go health market that offers vegan and gluten-free meals and meal plans. This is its second location after the one in East Dallas.

The plant-based menu offers options like the Thai Green Curry Vegetables with brown basmati rice, cauliflower, sugar snap peas, bamboo shoots, carrots, onion, lime juice, cilantro, basil and ginger; taco salad with sour cream, black beans, corn and taco meat substitute; and the broccoli and cheese potato with rice paper bacon. Nature's Plate is off to a strong start with five stars out of four reviews on Yelp.

Yelper Carolyn C. wrote, "The food items are delicious! Cameron was extremely helpful and knowledgeable helping me choose some items to try. ... This food is also surprisingly affordable, convenient while being packed with nutrition."

Nature's Plate is open from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.–7 p.m. on Sunday.

Jazen Tea

Jazen Tea is a tea room, offering bubble tea, smoothies and more. This new spot uses real whole fruits and high-quality ingredients to make all its fruit teas and drinks, the company explains on its website. 

Menu items include a variety of milk and fruit teas such as a Calamansi mango tea with chia seeds and mango fruit bits; the Honey Delight made with honey jasmine green tea, chia seeds, strawberry fruit bits and aloe vera; and a coconut Thai milk tea with honey boba. Jazen Tea currently holds four stars out of 28 reviews on Yelp, indicating good reviews.

Yelper Chu H. wrote, "The store is so pretty, nice and clean. The menu got my attention because the names are so cute. I ordered the mojito teas. They came out really good, fresh and not too sweet. You can adjust the sweetness if you like."

Heather H. added, "My favorite go-to place for my avocado smoothie with lychee jelly. If you buy the mason jar, your first drink is free and you can get one free add-in when you bring it back in on your next visit."

Jazen Tea is open from 10 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
