The Ministry
601 New Jersey Ave. NW, Downtown

The Ministry is a coffee shop and wine bar that also serves tea, baked goods and more.
Located across from Georgetown Law School, The Ministry offers a Queen's Guard of Ceylon black tea and flowers, and a Bellocq breakfast blend of Indian, Chinese and Ceylon single-estate black teas. There is also chamomile, green tea and a chai latte.
Have it along with freshly baked banana bread or a muffin, in flavors like cranberry orange or chocolate chip.
The Ministry is off to a promising start with a current Yelp rating of 4.5 stars out of three reviews.
Yelper Eileen C., who reviewed it on Sept. 4, wrote, "This is a great spot for coffee, wine, muffins and avocado toasts. I love the bright and inviting decor. ... The Ministry also offers free Wi-Fi for guests."
Yelper Alyssa C. wrote, "I love local coffee shops and am thrilled there is now one so close to my office. It has a cute vibe and a lot of potential."
The Ministry is open from 7 a.m.–9 p.m. on weekdays, 8 a.m.–9 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on Sunday.
Philz Coffee
1350 Connecticut Ave. NW, Dupont Circle

Philz Coffee is a San Francisco Bay Area-based coffee roaster and chain of shops.
The emphasis is squarely on coffee, specifically pour overs that are made to order. But Philz also provides tea options that include a broken orange pekoe from China that it describes as having floral, smoke and dried fruit aromas, and a pan-fired green Formosa with floral and nutty notes, fruity accents and a slightly sweet finish. If you prefer, there is also a chamomile and a Yerba mate.
With a 4.5-star rating out of nine reviews on Yelp, Philz Coffee has been getting positive attention.
Nehali S. noted, "The line really moves because of the efficiency of the baristas. They're quick, friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be back, line or no line."
Yelper Kris S. wrote, "This new location offers nice and comfortable seating with great views of the baristas at work or busy street views by the window seating."
Philz Coffee is open from 6 a.m.–8 p.m. daily.
Blue Bottle Coffee
1471 P St. NW, Logan Circle

Blue Bottle Coffee is another Bay Area native, still in the midst of an expansion after food giant Nestlé bought a majority stake in the company.
Once again, the focus is coffee, but you'll find a handful of tea options, including black, green and herbal teas. There's always a few pastries and even avocado toast to pair it with.
Blue Bottle Coffee's current rating of 3.5 stars out of 10 reviews on Yelp indicates the newcomer is finding its way, but it's still early days.
Yelper Teddy C., who visited Blue Bottle Coffee on Sept. 18, wrote, "I had originally stumbled upon this coffee shop back on the West Coast in SF and loved their roast and flavors, especially their cold brew. Beautiful interior and service can be a bit slow, but I think they are trying."
Via V. noted, "This location is located right off the 14th Street strip across from Whole Foods Market. The coffee and espresso is well prepared and the baristas are trained to pull consistently great shots with perfect crema. There is a good selection of goodies if you're looking for a hostess gift or small coffee item to give as a present."
Blue Bottle Coffee is open from 7 a.m.–5 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m.–6 p.m. on weekends.
