Snooze, an A.M. Eatery

Breakfast and brunch chain Snooze, an A.M. Eatery has opened a new location. It has other restaurants around Texas, including another in San Antonio, plus outposts in Colorado, California and Arizona.
The cafe offers dishes like the Breakfast Pot Pie with rosemary sausage gravy over a puff pastry, topped with an egg any style; the Chili Verde Benny with your choice of slow-cooked pulled pork or barbacoa-style beef, topped with a poached egg, green chili hollandaise and cotija cheese; and the Havana Daydreaming sandwich that is stuffed with pork, shaved ham, Gruyere cheese, homemade pickles and an egg with cream cheese hollandaise Dijon mustard. Yelper Stephen M., who reviewed it on Sept. 8, wrote, "This is hands down one of the greatest brunch spots I have ever had. I have always been a fan of Snooze, and their new location did not disappoint. ... From the moment you walk in the door, the fun, retro atmosphere and friendly staff make you feel immediately welcome."

Don Martin's Coffee
540 S. Presa St., Southtown

Coffee shop Don Martin's Coffee recently debuted with pan dulce from Cinderella Bakery, paletas (ice pops), craft beer and wine.
On the menu, you'll see hot beverage options like coffee, cortado, double espresso, cappuccino, latte, hot cocoa and tea. Cold beverages include cold brew coffee and juice. It also offers oatmeal, granola bars and cereal.
It has received positive feedback on Yelp so far, with a five-star rating out of five reviews.
Cynthia T., who reviewed it on Sept. 9, wrote, "The moment I set eyes on the exterior, I fell in love with Don Martin's Coffee. The outside has gorgeous paintings, and just gives off this vibe of local urban city neighborhood. ... The cortado was rich and thick, with an enjoyably bitter flavor, but not overpowering."
Jessica S. noted, "We came by in the afternoon and had a couple of cappuccinos. Both were excellent and service was friendly. The space is large and should make a good study spot."

Bamboo
1010 Flores St., Suite 111, Southtown

The locally owned Bamboo is a new Chinese and Asian fusion restaurant that features housemade sauces, chef specialties and modern decor. It's in the space that formerly housed Kung Fu Kitchen.
The menu has dishes like Hunan Chicken with bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, baby corn and other vegetables in a spicy Hunan sauce; the Szechuan Beef with red bell peppers, onions and bamboo shoots in a brown sauce; and the Pepper Steak with green bell peppers, yellow onions and black pepper. With 4.5 stars out of 11 reviews on Yelp, it's off to a good start among locals.
Phillip M., who reviewed it on Sept. 5, wrote, "Great value! Good food at a good price with good service. The Spicy Egg Drop soup was amazing and the lunch special portion was generous."

Koi Poke

The fast-casual Koi Poke is serving up build-your-own poke bowls and sushi burritos.
At the colorful eatery, you choose your base (sushi rice, kale noodles or green tea rice), then proteins (such as salmon, shrimp, spicy tuna, red snapper or crispy tofu), and finally your mix-ins and sauces.
With a five-star rating out of 10 reviews, Yelpers are enthusiastic about Koi Poke.
Melissa C., who reviewed it on Aug. 29, said, "When you want a great protein fix after the gym, but sushi is too pricey and not filling. Koi Poke has the perfect pairing of fresh fish, healthy toppings and generous portions. This is the perfect fusion of island feels and a taste that won't expand your waist."
Yelper Briana P. added, "If you like sushi, you'll love this place! It's like a Chipotle for sushi lovers. The prices are decent and they have a great variety of seafood and other toppings to make your poke bowl tasty!"

Playland
400 E. Houston St., Downtown

Then there's Playland, a new pizzeria and bar from chef Stefan Bowers and restaurateur Andrew Goodman. The eatery is named after the Playland Park that closed in 1980.
On the menu, you'll find pizzas like the Bull's Blood (marinara, chili flakes, garlic, oregano, Parmesan and olive oil), the Holy Joe (rosemary, fontina, pork jowl, black pepper and lemon cream) and Grandma's Garden (mozzarella, hot chilis, fresh tomatoes and Parmesan).
The bar has beer, wine and signature cocktails, which include the Fun House (Dripping Springs vodka, Rothman apricot liqueur, St Germaine and citrus) and the Ghost Train (Espolon reposado tequila, blood orange liqueur, ancho reyes chili and lime).
The eatery has a 3.5-star rating out of 25 reviews on Yelp thus far, indicating a solid reception from local diners.
Yelper Adam D., who reviewed the new spot on Sept. 15, wrote, "Great ambiance and, most importantly, excellent pizza. I would venture to say the best in town. I can't wait to go back and try more."
