From an LGBTQ happy hour to jazz in nature, there's plenty to do when it comes to community and cultural gatherings coming up in Washington. Read on for a rundown.

LGBTQ Community Happy Hour Social 

First up, Go Gay DC is hosting an LGBTQ Community Social at Embassy Row Hotel's Station Kitchen and Cocktail Lounge. One hundred people from all over the world, both LGBTQ and allies, are expected to attend to network and make some new friends. The event is free with a cash bar. There will be a free door prize raffle, and name tags will be provided. 

When: Friday, Oct. 12, 6-9 p.m.

National Press Club Headliners: 'Boy Erased'

Next up, the Mattachine Society hosts a conversation at the National Press Club with the real-life subjects of the upcoming Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe feature movie, "Boy Erased." The movie is based on the memoir of Garrard Conley and tells his story as the son of a Baptist pastor from small-town Arkansas, forced into a conversion therapy program after being outed to his parents at age 19.

Garrard and his mother, Martha, will share their story following a short first-person feature on their experience and will discuss their support for the Mattachine Society’s call for a nationwide ban on the controversial practice of conversion therapy.

Jazz & Lily Pads Concert 

Also this week, Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens hosts the final concert in their Jazz & Lily Pads series. The event is free and will feature live music, a photo exhibition featuring winners from its 2018 annual photo contest, and a special evening park tour. There will also be free hot dogs and apple cider, as well as a variety of activity stations for youngsters, including face painting, pumpkin painting, live birds of prey and more.

When: Saturday, Oct. 13, 3-5 p.m.

Vision Board Party

Finally Domestic Violence Wears Many Tags (DVWMT), a group seeking to raise community awareness of abuse and how to fight it, is hosting this vision board party under the moniker "I am My Sister's Keeper, I Will Make Her Stronger Not Weaker."

Girls and young ladies ages 13-24 are invited to support other young ladies in a  discussion led by DVWMT founder Afi Gaston. Participation is free. DVWMT is requesting donations of magazines, markers, glitter, boards, picture frames, and other arts and crafts supplies.

When: Sunday, Oct. 14, 12:30-4 p.m.
