Topping the list is Wolski's Tavern. Located at 1836 N. Pulaski St. in Milwaukee's Lower East Side, it is the highest-rated dive bar in the city, boasting 4.5 stars out of 105 reviews on Yelp.

Founded by Bernard Wolski in 1908, this long-standing establishment features a pool table, dart boards, free popcorn and an extensive draft beer selection, including regional standouts like Schlitz — the beer that made Milwaukee famous. (You can view the full selection here.)

Yelper Erin Z., who reviewed the hot spot on Sept. 30, wrote, "If you've never closed Wolski's, you haven't lived! Great bartenders, outstanding popcorn, inexpensive drinks and steel dart boards. Everyone is friendly and the atmosphere is unpretentious."

2. Koz's Mini Bowl

Next up is Koz's Mini Bowl, situated on the South Side at 2078 S. Seventh St. With 4.5 stars out of 81 reviews on Yelp, the dive bar and bowling spot has proven to be a local favorite.

This family-owned pub spans generations and is considered "a place of legendary stories and community strength," says the business on its website.

Highlights include four mini bowling lanes, darts, an old-school jukebox and a full bar serving up simple, yet strong tasting drinks.

3. George's Pub

George's Pub, located at 224 E. Washington St. in Harbor View, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the cash-only dive bar five stars out of 27 reviews.

Expect to find tavern specials such as low-cost pints, mixed drinks and shots of ice-cold butterscotch schnapps, along with snacks, dart boards and a singing George behind the bar top.

"It's sweet, it's divey, it's near a bridge you probably shouldn't walk under alone," wrote Yelper Virginia F. "But why would you do that anyway? If you have an ounce of nostalgia in your heart and you like a good drink at a great price, check out George's!"

4. Blackbird Bar

Blackbird Bar is another much-loved go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 61 Yelp reviews. The Bay View favorite features over 80 Wisconsin beers, as well as classic cocktails like the Old-Fashioned, Moscow mule, hot toddy and more.

Yelper Alisa S., who reviewed the popular spot on July 26, wrote, "The vibe is laid-back — it's a little gritty and raw, but that's the whole appeal. It's authentic and chock full of character. The selection is solid, their specials are decent, the space is smaller, but spread out, and the lighting adds to the overall aesthetic."
