Fried chicken fans, take heed: there's a new spot in town to get your fix. The new arrival to Chinatown, called Boom Crispy Chicken, is located at 22 Kneeland St.
The small restaurant in the former Little Kitchen location specializes in Taiwanese-style chicken. Choose your style — wings, legs, strips, popcorn — and a seasoning, like spicy, cheese or seaweed, with or without a side of fries. It's served in a to-go box, whether you take it home or stay and eat at one of the handful of tables.
There are also a few non-chicken menu options, including calamari, sausage skewers and braised pork on rice.
With a three-star rating out of 10 reviews on Yelp so far, Boom Crispy Chicken has received mixed feedback — but it's still early days.
Park G., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 25, wrote, "A switch from the popular Korean-style fried chicken. When I ordered, I was given the choice of original or spicy. The chicken is then topped with a choice of seasoning: seaweed, cheese or spicy. The seaweed is amazing."
Yelper C Z. added, “The chicken tastes pretty decent, relatively thin batter and meat was juicy. There wasn't anything special about them — no buttermilk or pickle brine or kimchi marinade, no special house sauce. Just chicken with some seasoning sprinkled.”
Head on over to check it out: Boom Crispy Chicken is open from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
