If you're a sports fan with a love for American food, a recent opening is need-to-know. Called Charlie's on the Avenue, the new addition is located at 1501 Mt. Vernon Ave. in Del Ray.
The new eatery comes from the proprietors of the nearby Live Oak restaurant and takes over the former FireFlies location. The menu boasts gastropub-style food like a grilled steak salad, beer-steamed mussels and slow-cooked chili. Drinks include canned beers, handcrafted cocktails and wine.
Expansive patio seating provides a beer garden-type atmosphere. Multiple TVs inside show the important games.
Charlie's on the Avenue has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a 3.5-star rating out of 10 reviews on Yelp.
Christina S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 21, wrote, "Ample TVs to watch the game. Decent beer and wine list, although I wish they had more DMV beers available. Best of all the prices are reasonable, which is hard to find in Del Ray."
And Adam J. wrote, "Charlie's has the potential to be an awesome, local spot but it's likely still just working out the kinks. When you first walk into Charlie's you're presented with no hostess. This is the one issue Charlie's needs to work on and fast. The brisket tacos are delicious. The short rib po'boy is magical."
Head on over to check it out: Charlie's on the Avenue is open from 11 a.m.–midnight daily.
