Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top gyms in Alexandria, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture next time you're looking to shake up your workout routine.

1. Solidcore

Topping the list is Solidcore. With outlets across much of the eastern half of the United States, Solidcore offers 50-minute, high-intensity Pilates classes. Each class is built around a reformer machine known as Sweatlana. Most classes work the whole body, though there are also ones that focus on, for example, the arms and the abs. Located at 800 N. Henry St. near the Braddock Road Metro, it is the highest-rated gym in Alexandria, boasting five stars out of 78 reviews on Yelp.

2. The WorX By Maia

Next up is The WorX by Maia, situated at 5402 Eisenhower Ave. Led by owner Maia Paglinawan Carney, workouts at this studio revolve around P90X, the cross-training and nutrition program. Regulars celebrate a sense of community at the gym that helps drive them to achieve their goals. With five stars out of 57 reviews on Yelp, this gym has proven to be a local favorite.

3. Sand & Steel Fitness

Old Town's Sand & Steel Fitness, located at 109 S. Alfred St., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving it five stars out of 42 reviews. The personal trainers here will learn about your goals, assess your fitness situation and design a training plan for you. Then, they'll help you reach your goals through a mix of one-on-sessions, yoga classes, weightlifting, running and nutritional changes. Also on staff are experts in CrossFit, corrective exercise and boxing.

4. Orangetheory Fitness

Next up, Orangetheory Fitness in Old Town is another much-loved go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 50 Yelp reviews. Orangetheory is a national chain with numerous outlets in the D.C. area. This studio brings to Alexandria the company's approach to maximizing motivation and calorie burn through 60-minute group classes guided by an instructor. Sessions are high-intensity and include both strength training floor work and cardio, and heart rate monitors provide constant feedback. Head over to 1101 King St. to see for yourself.

5. Onelife Fitness

And then there's Onelife Fitness, an Eisenhower East favorite with four stars out of 47 reviews. The East Coast mini-chain offers an open gym, with cardio machines and free weights, plus group classes in cycling, Pilates, barre, yoga and more.
