Poke Central

Quick-service eatery Poke Central is serving up customizable poke bowls in a bright, modern space.

Start by selecting your base (white rice, brown rice, organic spring mix or zucchini noodles), then either two or three scoops of protein (tuna, shrimp, salmon or tofu) and finally your sauce and toppings. (See the entire list of options here.)

With a five-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp so far, Poke Central is on its way to developing a local fan base.

Barbara C., who reviewed it on Oct. 15, said, "I ordered the large bowl with spring mix, tuna and the house sauce. It was delicious, and the tuna tasted fresh. The place looks amazing and everyone is so friendly."

Yelper PJ T. noted, "My bowl was delicious and so filling! I'm on a low carb diet, so I was super excited when I saw zucchini noodles as an option for the base."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Poke Central is open from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. on Monday-Thursday and Sunday, and 11 a.m.–10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Black Swan Yoga

Black Swan Yoga is a heated yoga studio that has other locations in Houston, Austin and Dallas. 

The practice space is set at 90 degrees and the studio is donation based, meaning that you don't pay a set fee to participate. The studio suggests donations between $10-$20, but it's up to you how much you're willing to offer. Monthly memberships are also available. Check out its class schedule here to learn more.

It's still early days for the business, which has just one review on Yelp thus far.

Anna V., who reviewed the new studio on Oct. 9, wrote, "Black Swan does an amazing job at keeping it challenging for those who may be yoga masters, yet not making the beginner feel defeated."

Interested? Stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood. Black Swan Yoga is open from 7:15 a.m.–9:30 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, 7:15 a.m.–6:30 p.m. on Friday, 8:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 8:30 a.m.–8 p.m. on Sunday.

Meadow

Meadow is a neighborhood eatery and bar that offers Southern and Texan fare, cocktails and a brunch menu.

The seasonal menu, which uses local Texan produce and meat, has options like gulf mahi mahi with grits, tomato broth, bok choy and fennel; the charcoal-grilled ribeye with butternut squash, roasted sweet peppers and Worcestershire jus; and the pork meatballs with wax beans, pickled red onion and Calabrian relish. With a four-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp so far, Meadow is off to a promising start. 

Yelper Andrew K., who reviewed it on Oct. 11, wrote, “What a beautiful restaurant. Modern and industrial with a warm feeling. We sat in the lounge part of the bar, which was very comfortable and relaxed. The owner came over a few times to check on us, which really gives you the feeling that this is a well-run family-owned neighborhood restaurant."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Meadow is open from 5–10 p.m. on Tuesday-Saturday and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Sunday. (It's closed on Monday.)
