Now open at the Bow Market (1 Bow Market Way) in Union Square is Hot Box, a pizza spot from the proprietors of Mike & Patty’s in Boston’s Bay Village.

Split into two sections, the menu at Hot Box reflects the food of the North and South Shores of Boston. North Shore roast beef sandwiches are served with barbecue sauce, mayonnaise and American cheese on a hoagie. South Shore pizzas come in classic, white or "Ghost Pickle" styles, the latter served with both dill pickles and ghost pepper cheese.

In Bow Market style, you're free to grab drinks from the other tenants, like Remnant Brewery or Rebel Rebel Wine Bar.

Next, Dragon Pizza has debuted at 233 Elm St. in Davis Square.

It's getting attention for its thin-crust pizza made in styles from a traditional Margherita to an untraditional clam, sausage and kale. Order a whole pie, or choose from whatever's available by the slice.

Besides pizzas, the menu features chicken, meatball and grilled cauliflower kebabs, all cooked on a smoker grill. House-made gelato is here, too, and comes in vanilla and dark chocolate, plus an ever-changing daily flavor.

Finesse Pastries

Lastly, another newcomer to Somerville is Finesse Pastries, now open at 594 Somerville Ave. It has another location at Boston Public Market.

Pastry chef Chelsey Erickson specializes in macarons, the French treat handmade with almond flour, egg whites and powdered sugar. The flavor list is extensive: salted caramel chocolate, black sesame, pumpkin pie, among many others. Special larger versions come filled with mousse, nougat or buttercream.

Colorful cakes and cheesecakes, cream puffs, tarts and eclairs fill the display cases, all ripe for birthdays and other special occasions.
