A new late-night taqueria called El Nopal Mexican Grill recently opened its doors at 1119 21st St. in Midtown. It specializes in street tacos made with house-made corn tortillas, per its website.
Tacos are served with onion, salsa, cilantro and avocado, and come with fillings of carne asada, chicken, chorizo or the veggie nopales (edible cactus paddles) and beans. Diners can also get a side of house-made watermelon salsa with chips, or some fried tamales.
El Nopal Mexican Grill has already attracted fans in its early days, with a five-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.
Yelper Lauren S., who was the first to review the new spot on September 19, wrote, "Everything is incredible! We ordered the entire menu, I can't pick one. The cactus, the jalapeño bacon poppers, the tacos."
And Sam J. added, "The tacos were on handmade tortillas and filled with two to three street tacos' worth of meat. After that the crispy fried tamales were the perfect follow up. They were fabulous. The crispy outside and the soft delicious filling blended in a new and exciting way."
