Craving Southern classics? You're in luck: Mason Dixie Biscuit Co. has opened its doors at 1819 Seventh St. NW in Shaw.
Formerly operating out of Union Market and as a drive-through, its new digs on Seventh Street have a retro-diner feel and bold wall graphics celebrating the history of the company.
The core of the menu is, of course, the fresh-made buttermilk biscuits. You'll find them smothered under gravy, holding up an egg and a piece of ham, or sandwiching a piece of Southern fried chicken. You can also buy the biscuits by the dozen.
For breakfast, there are hash browns and cheddar grits. Later in the day, there's mac and cheese, creamed corn and coleslaw.
Mason Dixie Biscuit Co. has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of eight reviews on Yelp.
Yelper Emma K., who reviewed the eatery on Oct. 13, wrote, "Delicious food and really friendly service. Excellent selection of home cooking and when we got our breakfast, the biscuits and fixings did not disappoint. But the real star of the show is the friendly service."
Yelper H and I L. wrote, "So glad they are open after closing old location. Everything is delicious: biscuits, jam, chicken on biscuits, sausage gravy on biscuits. Staff is as friendly as always. Kids love it."
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Mason Dixie Biscuit Co. is open from 8 a.m.–8 p.m. daily.
