A new Asian fusion spot has debuted in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to downtown, called American Son, is located at 1201 K St. NW.
The long-anticipated restaurant in the Eaton Hotel is open from breakfast into the late night. Chef Tim Ma developed a menu of American comfort foods infused with Asian and other international influences from his outlook as a second-generation immigrant.
Breakfast options include a salmon pastrami (made with sustainable salmon farmed in Patagonia) served with carrot kimchi. The lunch menu has a banh mi sandwich featuring chicken confit. And dinner includes a whole red snapper served with papaya salad, spicy Thai chili nuoc cham dipping sauce and fried rice.
The newcomer has already attracted fans thus far, with a four-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp.
Kimberly S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on October 19, wrote, "I have always been a big fan of Tim Ma's concepts and am excited to see him flex his creative muscle again. I'll be back for brunch! The congee and Chinese five spice monkey bread is calling my name."
Yelper Darius S. added, “Asian-American fusion personified through food, aesthetic, and good sounds. As a vegetarian it was difficult to make a decision because everything looked appetizing.”
