A new cocktail lounge has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Better Sorts Social Club, the newcomer is located downtown in the Kimpton Nine Zero Hotel at 90 Tremont St.
Low lighting and modern furniture characterize the space. The drinks program is helmed by Naomi Levy of Eastern Standard, who has won numerous awards and focuses on crafting "innovative, delicious drinks made from fresh, seasonal ingredients," the bar explains on its website.
Look for creative cocktails like Davy Jones' Locker, made from Casa Noble Blanco, fino sherry, smoked bosc pear and seaweed; El Chopo, with Del Maguey Vida mezcal, zucchini syrup, lime, and pineapple tepache; and The Tide is High, containing Plantation pineapple rum, kale, Giffard creme de banane and lime.
Classic drinks like the sherry cobbler and the Harvey Wallbanger are also on offer.
There are plenty of small bites to accompany your drink, including a fondue, shellfish cocktail and portobello fries.
It's still early days for the lounge, which has just four reviews on Yelp so far.
Tom K., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Oct. 4, wrote, "Amazing food, cocktails and service. The decor and ambiance are amazing — typical of Kimpton hotels and bars, but transported to another time and place, for sure."
Yelper Rose F. added, “We were seated at a communal table with another group. The waitstaff is very nice and knowledgeable about the drinks, but was extremely slow. The drinks were good, but expensive.”
