If ice cream is your thing, look no further. The fresh addition to Shaw, called Nicecream, is located at 1924 Eighth St. NW and has three other shops in the region.
The Virginia-based business specializes in nitrogen ice cream in which the staff creates the ice cream as you watch, using liquid nitrogen to flash-freeze grass-fed cream and local ingredients. Flavors change weekly (see the calendar here); recent options have included butter toffee pecan, brown sugar-baked pear and apple pie.
Nicecream serves coffee from Alexandria-based Swing's Coffee Roasters and has a few other sweets, like cookies and brownies.
With a 3.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, Nicecream has made a promising start.
Max C., who reviewed the new shop on Oct. 1, wrote, "Have liked these folks since my Arlington days. Love the theatrics (and taste) of nitrogen ice cream. It's a great process, and why not open a store like this? Makes them unique."
And Heather H. wrote, "This place makes their ice cream to order using liquid nitrogen! Crazy stuff. Like a mad science experiment. Range of flavors from creative (brown sugar pear) to a bit more basic (cold brew coffee). It's made to order so you have to wait a few minutes for it."
Nicecream is now open at 1924 Eighth St. NW., so swing on by to take a peek.
