A new Italian spot has opened for business in the neighborhood. The new arrival to The Wharf complex comes from chef Nicholas Stefanelli of the Michelin-starred Masseria. Called Officina, it is located at 1120 Maine Ave. SW in Southwest D.C.

More than a restaurant, Officina is three floors of Italian culinary exploration. The ground floor is an all-day cafe, serving cappuccinos and pastries, and a specialty grocery that carries imported Italian goods like olives, cheese and prosciutto.

One floor up is a trattoria with an open kitchen serving Southern Italian dishes, including pasta, seafood and grilled meats.

Finally, on the rooftop, enjoy sweeping views while enjoying top-shelf wine and cocktails.

The newcomer has proven popular thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.

Melissa R., who reviewed the new spot on Oct. 14, wrote, "We liked the ambience of all the floors and the rooftop bar is a huge gem. The food was very, very good, especially for the price."

Yelper Liz C. added, “What a great addition to the wharf. Love the list of sides and the ability to build a meal to share. Cannolis were the best I have eaten in the DC area. The meat platters looked delightful.”

Officina's business hours were not yet available at the time of publication.
