A new Russian and Uzbek restaurant has opened for business in Alexandria. The new addition to the Hoffman Town Center, called Rus Uz, is located at 210 Swamp Fox Road, where Ruby Tuesday used to stand. This is the second location of this locally owned restaurant; the original is in Arlington.
On the menu, options include classics like beef stroganoff and chicken Kiev along with herring fillets with layers of potatoes, carrots, beets, eggs and mayonnaise, known as "fish under coat." Or try Mastava, an Uzbek soup that has beef, rice, potatoes and vegetables, served with greens and yogurt on top.
Rus Uz offers traditional and infused vodkas and a selection of Russian beers. Kompot (a sweet fruit drink), tea and kva, a fermented root beer-like drink, are also on offer.
Rus Uz has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp.
M Y., who reviewed the new restaurant on Sept. 7, wrote, "Good for small or big groups. The ambience is very elegant and cozy, and the service is great. They pay so much attention to customers, and they are quick when a customer needs something. Everything tasted amazing."
Yelper Karisa G. added, “Great comfort food full of flavor. I ordered pelmenis (dumplings), which were delicious. They were stuffed with meat and full of flavor. They have a decent beer, wine and cocktail list.”
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Rus Uz – Alexandria is open from 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m. on Monday-Saturday and noon–10 p.m. on Sunday.
